Sand castings
Process Introduction
Sand casting is a metal forming process that first forms a three-dimensional sand mold, and then pours the melted metal into the cavity of the sand mold for solidification. After the metal parts have cooled and formed, remove the sand shell. Some sand castings require post-processing after casting. Sand casting can produce various metal materials, including cast iron, special alloy steel, titanium alloys, etc. Sand casting is an economically efficient process technology that can flexibly adapt to size and structural design requirements. Sand castings usually require secondary processing to improve product accuracy.
Main steps
1. Drawing: Based on the customer's casting drawings, use drawing software to design the casting production process diagram.
2. Mold making: In sand casting, the mold is made of wood or other metal materials. The mold size is slightly larger than the finished product, and the difference is called shrinkage allowance. The purpose is to ensure that the molten metal acts on the mold to ensure solidification and shrinkage, and to prevent voids during the casting process.
3. Core making: Place sand particles in the mold to form a casting with an internal surface, and the gap between the core and the mold ultimately becomes the casting.
4. Modeling: The process of manufacturing sand molds. Modeling usually involves the support structure of the mold, pulling out the mold to separate it during the casting process, melting the previously placed core in the mold, and then closing the mold mouth.
5. Smelting and pouring: Heat the metal material to a molten state and then pour it into the mold. Parameters such as pouring temperature and speed have a significant impact on the quality of castings.
6. Sandblasting: Separate castings from molding sand and sand boxes manually or mechanically.
7. Cleaning: Removing sand particles, polishing, and excess metal from castings, welding, and sand removal can improve the surface appearance of castings, and remove burnt sand and scale.
8. Inspection: Check the appearance, size, performance, etc. of the castings to ensure compliance with quality requirements.
9. Heat treatment: Heat treat castings as needed to improve their performance.
